Ah, one of those fabled cushy government positions? Maybe some are, but my boss was a bit of a tyrant. His lack of leadership became my problem. Everything was a rush, everything was disorganized. So I broke off, along with a few colleagues, and we lectured independently for a while. Until I came here, to work for Hammond.
Oh, no. Northmoor was -- psychotic. I don't think he works there anymore, he might have burned out. Not my problem, either way.
[When Muldoon settles back, Casper settles with him, leaning happily against the warden's chest, nose against his neck.] It's a much more exciting job. With even more fantastic people.
Oh sorry, am I -- [He laughs and moves so he's not breathing right against Muldoon's neck, at least. Though not without kissing his cheek, first.] And I found a fantastic friend who happens to be an excellent kisser. Which is equally important, I think.
What if I... [Carefully, he sets his wine glass aside, then takes Muldoon's whiskey and sets that out of the way as well. Then with a grin, he swing's a leg over the other man's lap to straddle him, cupping his face in his hands and brushing their mouths together teasingly.]
[Muldoon has an excellent poker face, managing to keep his smile small right up until Casper's question.]
No. Let's fix that. [His hands, having fallen naturally to Casper's sides, wrap around him, pulling him closer so that Muldoon can kiss him. He's been waiting for this all day, so patiently, and fully intends to enjoy it now.]
You make me feel like such a teenager. [But it's clear from his smile and the way he moves closer when pulled that it's very much a compliment. One hand braces against the back of the sofa, the other sliding into Muldoon's hair to tip his head back as they kiss.]
[If he wasn't so focused on kissing Casper, Muldoon would echo the sentiment. Instead he's getting reacquainted with Casper's body as he sinks into to couch with a happy little hum. This is a fine dessert.]
[It's an excellent dessert, and an even better way to spend the evening, in Casper's not terribly humble opinion. He hasn't felt like this about someone in years, and this, right here? Makes him feel something akin to giddy.
He slides his fingers along Muldoon's neck, sneaking his fingertips under the collar of his shirt and wondering if he could get away with leaving a mark a little higher up on his neck.]
[Muldoon is lost in enjoying himself. His train of thought runs from the idea of making up for his lack of casual affection in private, to other ways to ensure Casper knows he's appreciated. Which is when something hits him.]
Mmph! [The sound of realisation is the only warning before Muldoon pulls away from the kiss.] I forgot to give you your present!
Hmn? [He tries, at first, to follow him, to draw him back into another kiss. But then the reason why Muldoon pulled away in the first place hits him, and Casper leans back as well, his hands against Muldoon's chest.] My present! Oh my goodness, you're right, we did forget about that.
I'll uh -- let me just -- [One more quick kiss before he moves off of Muldoon's lap with a sigh.] I am very excited that you got me something.
[The warden pushes himself off the couch before he can kick himself too much for interrupting something so lovely. Heading to one of the nearby drawers, he pulls out an object wrapped in brown paper, vaguely shaped like a small banana.
Muldoon stops just short of handing it over, eyebrows raised.]
Before I give this to you, remember the rule: It's not a big deal. But also that you were ready to jump my bones a few seconds ago.
[Finally he offers it to Casper. Within the paper Casper will find the tooth of a genetically engineered tyrannosaurus. Muldoon watches, hands in his pockets so that he doesn't fidget.]
I thought you would appreciate it so I had it cleaned up for you.
Right, of course. Not a big deal, and I will return to that in a moment.
[He unwraps it, very carefully, and his face lights up with absolute delight when he sees what it is.] Oh Robert, look at this! This is fantastic. Did one of the children lose a tooth somehow? I'll have to come check on her.
I love it, come here. [The tooth is very carefully set next to their glasses, and Muldoon gets pulled in for a sweet, happy kiss.] That is a wonderful present.
[The relief when Casper's face lights up, so genuinely happy...]
The tyrannosaur. Predators lose teeth all the time... [He has to pull his hands out of his pockets to keep his balance with that kiss. They rest on Casper's shoulders as he kisses back before he takes a breath.]
I'm glad you like it. Just don't tease the other scientists. Or let them take it away for testing or something like that.
I figured it was slightly too big for a compsognathus tooth. [Once Muldoon leans in, Casper tugs at his hips to try and bring him back down onto the sofa. He's happy, he's pleased, not just with the gift but with the man himself.]
Yes, right, hunting and that sort of thing. And no, no one's touching it. I'm keeping it safe, because it's special.
[It's not difficult to coax Muldoon back to the couch. He'll follow Casper's lead, whether he's sitting first or straddling. He's more concerned with the fact that his present passed muster, and wasn't too much.]
Good, because I could see Wu getting jealous. But even if he does, or anyone does, just give me a call. I'll sort them out.
[He's just rambling now. It's what happens when he's not sure what to do with the fluttering, anxious feelings that apparently come with giving Casper a gift.]
Oh will you? [Once Muldoon is seated again, Casper resumes his seat as well, straddling the other man and draping his arms over his shoulders. He leans in for another kiss, this one soft, almost delicate. Given with a smile.]
I really do like it, Robert. Thank you for thinking of me.
Mmhm. [He'd elaborate but he's pretty easily distracted by the man on his lap. Especially by that kiss. It takes him a second to register the thanks.]
I know you love the animals. This way you have a piece of one of them.
[Seeing Casper get excited is great, but being the one to make him so happy is so much better. But it's mainly for his own enjoyment that Muldoon kisses Casper again, hands pulling him close by his waist.]
So sweet. [But it's mumbled against Muldoon's mouth, along with a soft laugh. The gift is incredibly thoughtful and his -- whatever it is they are is so kind for worrying about impressing him. For his concern about taking care of the orchid. It's the absolute dearest thing, and Casper finds himself absolutely smitten.
It could be dangerous, this feeling. Or it could be easy, like kissing him is. He should stop overthinking it.]
[As much as the kissing, Muldoon enjoys the easy access to running his hands over Casper like this. It's a good position for that. Eventually, though, he pulls back with a hum.]
Mmnh? [He's not being kissed anymore, and he starts to pout a little about that. But then Muldoon is explaining, which improves his mood greatly. He slides his hands over the other man's chest, looking very pleased at the idea.]
[It's impossible not to smile at the way Casper so visibly brightens up. The warden doesn't need to be a hunter to be able to track Casper's emotions, which makes things so much easier. It's very reassuring when the reaction is clear as day.]
I'd lift you, but you have me pretty pinned down, here.
[Casper's never had the best poker face as is, and with Muldoon it's even harder to hide how much he's enjoying himself. He stands and stretches his arms over his head with a grin.]

I imagine Wu isn't much of a tyrant in comparison.
[Sipping his whiskey, he settles back a bit.] I'm glad you're here now.

Mm, and this time you know the person in charge of keeping people in line is on your side.

An excellent kisser? Are you sure? It could have been a fluke. You should test it again to make sure you've come to the right conclusion.

What if I did that? Or is that too overzealous.
