"Robert," he scolds gently, but it's meant with concern rather than anger. Walking on a broken toe is a good way to get permanent damage, if one isn't careful, and Casper Darling is a worrier.
"Well no more punching metal for you for a while, hmm?" Darling says, gathering together his small but serviceable med kit, along with a few clean cloths and a bottle of water. All that gets set nearby, and he pulls a chair up so he's sitting in front of Muldoon.
"Knuckles or foot, first? You'll be pleased to know that hydrogen peroxide has been proven to not help with wound care much at all, so you don't have to go through that, at least."
He's been scolded far worse so he'll take it. Besides, it's never a bad thing to remind Muldoon that he should worry about himself sometimes and not just about the park. He's a worrier too, just never about himself.
"I won't be planning on it," he agrees.
Taking a moment to look at his hands, and then his feet, he decides there isn't much of a difference. So he offers the hand with the split knuckles first. "We'll start with the hands."
After Casper has started and he's gotten the hang of steeling his expression, he turns his thoughts to just how rude he's being. "I hope I didn't interrupt anything with this."
"Nothing I can't get back to in a few minutes, after I've patched you up," Darling tuts, dampening a cloth to set about cleaning off Muldoon's knuckles. "I don't mind the break, anyway. A few hours of staring at digital DNA strands does give one a bit of a headache.
Other than fighting the lighting fixtures, how have things been in your neck of the island?"
The corner of the warden's mouth twitches unhappily as the bruised and scraped skin is cleaned up. He won't go so far as to make any noises of discomfort, however. Even when he speaks he takes care to keep his voice steady and even.
"Quiet." He shakes his head at his own answer. "As quiet as it ever gets. I know it won't last. We have a new transfer of animals next week. That will keep me busy, but until then? It seems quiet."
Too quiet. He gets restless when there isn't an active emergency going on. Restless enough to drink too much and end up kicking lampposts.
"Ah! Thus the getting bored and picking fights with inanimate objects." The twitches are noted, and Darling tries to keep his touch as light as possible while still getting the scraped skin clean.
"Well you're always welcome to drop by and get a free impromptu genetics lecture. If that will keep you out of trouble."
Alright, that time the twist of his lips is for being called out. The whiskey helped a bit, but he wouldn't have had so much if there was anything better on offer. Boredom fosters stupidity and he's not immune to that, no matter how much he'd insist otherwise.
Speaking of offers, Muldoon looks somewhat sceptical of Darling's suggestion. "I've seen some of the back and forth between the labs. I'm sure you have enough to do without explaining the intricacies of your work to a layman. Especially one who has just enough knowledge to ask awkward questions. I enjoy your company too much to want to test your patience like that."
